Tis' the season!
I know it sounds cliché, but it's true - some of use tend to put on unwanted extra weight during the holidays. So here are a few holiday weight loss tips from celebrity trainer Matthew Uohara.
Matthew is the CEO and founder of Hale Inu Strength and Conditioning in Los Angeles, caters to the busy lives of celebs like actor Julian Morris and Superbowl champ Mike Neal, so he understands finding the time to work out is difficult.
Here are his 5 easy tricks to implement this season to maintain your physique until New Years and beyond:
1. Each morning wake up and walk briskly before eating.
After the fasting period (from your last meal) your blood sugar levels are low and energy has to come from somewhere. Walking first thing in the morning will draw energy from fat sources which will burn calories faster.
2. When you do exercise, choose more whole body movements.
Metabolically, the more demanding exercises are the ones that incorporate the most muscles. Doing these exercises, like squats, pushups and pull-ups, will not only increase metabolic expenditure during the workout but will post workout as well.
3. Shorter rest between sets.
Decreasing the rest period between sets will cause positive hormonal increases in IGF-1, Testosterone and GH. These are all hormones that promote growth of lean tissue. Lean tissue increase = increase caloric expenditure.
4. Choose the white turkey meat.
White meat comes from the muscles in the turkey that are required for quicker movements (fast twitch fibers) and thus is a leaner cut than the darker meat. Skip the skin, as it contains some saturated fat. Rather than getting your fat from the skin, opt for other healthier sources such as avocado.
5. Sleep
Vacations are a great way to recover mentally as well as physically. Due to the high stress of jobs, traffic and other things, the body reacts by attempting to adapt. Unfortunately, if these stressors persist, your immune levels decrease and recovery from the slightest of dysfunctions may be tough. Although you technically cannot “catch up” on sleep, it is an essential ingredient to getting you back on the path of healthy living.
